The 6th World Ecological Summit Congress – EcoSummit 2020

The Summit will be held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on the Gold Coast of Australia from June 21 to 25, 2020. The theme of the meeting is to build a sustainable and ideal future: adapting to the ever-changing land and Ocean landscape.

This series of conferences was established in Copenhagen in 1996 as a forum for scientists, practitioners, and decision-makers to collaborate across fields, aiming to solve the comprehensive environmental, social, and economic issues facing the world today. Since 1996, the Ecological Summit has been held all over the world (Canada, China, the United States, and Europe). The 2016 Ecological Summit was held in Montpellier, France, with 1,400 representatives from 87 countries participating.

The 2020 Ecological Summit will focus on Coastal Ecosystems and Marine Ecosystems, including neighbouring terrestrial ecosystems, and all habitats including river networks, wetlands, and watersheds. Policies are formed to assist with adapting to climate and developing global social economy, environmental restoration, and building sustainable prosperity, and will further focus on those vulnerable to climate change and human pressure. Fragile systems, such as islands, coastal communities, and dry areas are top of mind this year.

At present, with the increasing population of the world, there is no doubt about the construction of sustainable cities and the sustainable use of resources being important. The summit is expected to present a declaration including its vision and policy recommendations.

Greater Melbourne is home to the emerging food industry. It is Australia’s largest food exporter, with exports soaring to 12 billion Australian dollars in 2014-2015. The main food export items include dairy products (US$2.3 billion), grains (US$2 billion), beef (US$1.3 billion), sheep products (US$2.5 billion), and fruits and nuts (US$1.2 billion). The region supplies approximately 85% of Australian dairy products exports to countries such as Australia, China, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia.

Manufacturers such as Cargill, Chobani, Warrnambool cheese and butter, Fonterra, Burra Foods, and Nestle use Greater Melbourne as an Australian food processor center.

Advanced agri-food research facilities support innovation in the food manufacturing industry, including AgriBioscience Centre (AgriBio), CSIRO, DairyBio, Food Innovation Australia Limited (FIAL), and the Food Research and Innovation Centre of RMIT University.
